Train Your Dog House Manners

It is important that your dog understands his place in the household and behaves appropriately. Mutual respect is essential for harmonious living together and sate interaction, therefore ground rules must he laid so your dog knows what is, and isn't, allowed.

House Rules

Be consistent with house rules and commands; not letting him do something one day and then allowing it the next may result in a confused dog displaying stress and anxiety induced behaviors, such as chewing, toileting inside or even showing aggression.

Greeting visitors

It you do not want your dog to meet home visitors by jumping up at them and continually pestering them for attention, teach him not to via the sit/stay, leave and down commands.

Possessiveness

It your dog is possessive over things, such as his bed, toys and food and growls or snaps if anyone goes near them, then, for safety’s sake, only give him these things under sale supervision. Seek professional hands-on help as a priority.

Overenthusiastic welcome

It your dog leaps all over you on your return home and you don't want him to, then you need to re-educate him not to do this. Simply enter, do what you need to and ignore him. Only acknowledge him when he settles down, then he learns that a quiet welcome from him is more rewarding.

On your lap

Only let your dog sit beside you, or on your lap, it invited to do so. Teach him to stay on the floor, unless you specifically ask him to join you on the sofa Teach him to get down on command also.

Out of sight, out of mind

Keep waste bins and other items you do not want your dog to interfere with securely out of his way, thereby avoiding temptation and potential conflict.

Happy Families

Teaching your pet how to behave acceptably in the home and in relation to humans in the household, and visitors, will lead to a more harmonious and comfortable existence for you both. Failing to do this leads, unfortunately, to a dog being reprimanded for behaving only as he’s been taught, so you owe it to him to learn how to handle dogs correctly before owning one, or at least ensure you and your dog attend training classes on a regular basis to keep you both on the right track.
