An ageing dog can provide companionship that's just as rewarding playing with a puppy. A 'golden oldie' may be a bit slower mentally and physically, but his affection and loyalty will he undiminished and you can do much in enable him to enjoy his autumn years with you.
As an approximate guide, to compare dog and human ages, equate 14 human years to a dog’s first year and add 7 for each following year, as follows...
Generally, smaller dogs live longer than large breeds, for example Irish Wolfhounds live for only 8 to 9 years, whereas a Yorkshire Terrier may still be going strong at 15.
